The land of the Free

I loved this reading and would recommend it to anyone who feels that this is not the best country to be a part of. It is scary to hear that Islamic fundamentalists love death as we love life but, it is something that we have faced and will face until bin laden can be removed and answer for his crimes against America. I love this country and would not have it any other way. Many of us do not realize how good we really have it and how things could be much worse. God Bless America and may the great blessings be upon us all that we may realize that we are as one and can stand together for a common goal, and will not let this country fall to terrorism, we should all take pride and excitement in this beautiful and above all FREE country.

Framing Class

This Story Framing Class, Vicarious Living and Conspicuous Consumption has a lot of truth to it. First off I know from personal experience that watching a lot of t.v. paticularly reality shows can make you want to go out and buy things to bring you closer to the lifestyle of the celebrity that was portrayed in the program. The media will do anything they can to keep the interest of the public. They completely ruin peoples lives by intruding in their personal lives, and by encouraging crazy ass people to chase these celebrities like a ravenous animal after its prey.

Lets be serious!! nobody deserves to have all of their personal life out on display for no good reason other than a few assholes want to make a quick buck. These idiots wouldn't need to invade these peoples lives if the media didn't constantly toot the rich life is better horn. I personally am sick of this and wish that people would knock their shit off and let people lead their own lives and stay the hell out.

The media does a bang up job at making the middle working class look like complete idiots that drool over the rich lifestyle. The truth is that we all do it at some point in our lives which is sad to admit but its the truth. I think Diana Kendall did an awesome job at breaking down the framing of different classes, and I would be interested to read another story by this author.

Serving in Florida

This story "Serving in Florida" by Barbara Ehrenreich is an all to common account of the working conditions of a lot of American people. This to me is a stern warning of the things you will have to face without proper education or specific talent/ training. This story gets you very emotionally involved by describing the overall conditions of the people and the surroundings that she dealt with on a daily basis. I thought it was interesting that she basically did this as an experiment. She moved into a trailer park and the whole nine yards. I t grabbed me that she dealt with it and even worked two jobs, that is crazy. Really I think that this should really hit the high school age kids the hardest, because they are getting ready to be thrown out into the real world. This can be a chilling reminder that the world is not a bowl of cherries and higher education is something to be cherished and not taken for granted.

Word Confusion

Some people struggle with words that sound the same but have a different meaning. Words like, hear, and here. Accept and except. This is a common mistake that people make, but I found a website that defines the difference.http://www.unm.edu/~hookster/Homynyms%20and%20Other%20Similar%20Words.pdf. This website has a long list of words that get confused and the difference between them.

This was an interesting story. I foun it really interesting when Tannen discussed the Middle Ages, and how children were taken into these military type camps that allowed cruel punishment and even had thier own language. It seems that posistive influence does help the writer rather than the posistive and negative struggle.

Ireally enjoyed how the teachers in kindergarten would teach the children even though they may not have realized that they were being taught. I really enjoyed this section because by doing this the children were able to draw closer with knowledge about this object they hold so dear. In conclusion I would say that Tannen did move from argument and engaged in higher learning.

I Just Wanna be Average by Mike Rose

This was a n interesting story that I think a lot of kids feel at some point in thier schooling. It was interesting when there was a mix up and he was placed in Voc. Ed. But with this happening it seemed to strenghten him as he went on, It was kinda funny when he didn't know what entrance requirements were, but that is something that I'm sure a lot of kids go through as they graduate High School.

I definitely felt a strong message that he was getting accross. it was followed with logos. I felt that there was a lot of logos in this paticular story, and pathos with discribing all of the things that he went through, with his classmates and his teachers that got him where he ended up.

I feel from this story that education is very important and even troubled kidseed the good attention to try to give them the best education that is available for them. this kinda revamped my already deep focus on the importance of education, and how you can attend college and do things that you may see as impossible.

Against School

I feel after reading this story by Gatto, that there may be some problems with our schooling. Who knows for sure? This could be someone who has worked for the system for a really long time and is now tired of it and is picking it apart to make his leaving all the sweeter. Now with that said, I remember when I myself was going to high school and constantly felt bored, I couldn't wait to get out of class so I could have some fun. There were a couple of classes that were interesting to me but not enough to keep the bordem away.

Looking into this story for rhetoris, I found that there was a strong pathos influence with him stating the bordem as well as his own frustrations. Oh and don't forget his fellow teachers, they also had that same frustration. Its obvious that Gatto is the communicator, and the reader is the audience. The message of course is do we really need public schooling? I feel that we do but obviously like many things this is a hot debate. One thing I do know is, I would rather have an education, knowing what I know rather than the alternative which can be more deadly than obtaining an education.

The American Idiot

I personally have felt that our teachers have been under paid for many years. I think that Moore is right when he puts his focus on the importance of our teachers. It struck a cord with me when I read his little letter of how we should talk to our child's teachers, and ask them if there is anything we can do to help them. Our children's teachers have a huge responsibility to basically help us raise our children.

They are so important, but seem to be as Moore says, "punching Bags." I have heard over the last few years that in many cities there have been a serious shortage of teachers. The sad thing is that people who want to be a teacher cannot fill these positions because they do not pay enough for them to relocate. The thing that really bothers me is that I had pop and candy machines the whole time that I was going to school, and never thought of there being some hidden corporate agenda to get us kids to buy more soda's.

I think that our school systems need more attention then they did in the past, We need to see that our children are getting the best education possible. There are always gonna be people that don't take education seriously. That we cannot get rid of until we teach our parents how to discipline their children, and teach their children that schooling, and a continued education are very important.

What we really miss about the 1950's

Looking at this story by Stephanie Coontz, it is obvious that she put a lot of time into this by gathering all of this research. She had all sorts of statistics, which showed the reader what people liked and disliked about this era, as well as other decades. One thing that I noticed, is the fact that she makes the 1950's sound like it was the most desireable until she shows that statistics, and talks about the interviews that were done with happy couples that showed this was not necessarily the case.

The interviews showed that many women did not want to live as their mothers did. women were treated differently back in those days, and These women didn't want that for themselves. I feel that each decade had its own significance, but they each had their problems as well. I do agree that with our children, there are things that were easier about 50's. we have to watch things a lot closer than they had to back in those days. Today things have gotten worse as far as keeping track of what our children are reading and watching. I do also think that kids have had some benefits from this era, so in reality there are a lot of things wrong with this world today but we can't forget the good that has come as well.

Looking For Work

Reading through Gary Soto's story " Looking For Work" we find an eight year old boy that has a desire to have the perfect family. He goes on to talk about how he wanted his family to come to the dinner table dressed nice, but his siblings would come dressed otherwise. He would go around his neighborhood looking for work to make money, and attempt to become rich. He was a very giving, and humble boy. The one thing that I noticed in this story is when his mother basically says that the white people do not like them. This is sad because there are so many kids that have a tough time in life because of the racial hatred that their families teach them. In the end we are all the same. This is a concept that most people will not grasp. I admire the way this little boy just kept trying. I like at the end when his mother tells him to go back outside because it is still daylight. The little boy goes outside and decides there is enough daylight to look for work. If we all had this type of attitude, we would probably be a little better off.

To be an American.

To me being an American means so many things. We are a free country, we can be what we choose, and go where we choose when we want. We can enjoy our free time. We can have an education that will offer us the ability to provide for our families. I feel that our country is just as it says, "The Land Of The Free". I love living in this country and having the freedoms that other countries don't have.

I Love waking up each day knowing that me and my family are free. Knowing that i can drive down to the store and grab some groceries, and knowing that I can attend school to further my education. We have it good here. we have the ability to go buy a new car or go buy clothes for our family. We are not forced into any religion. We can choose our religion on our own. We can have a black President. our country has come so far from it's early days and I look forward to the bright future that we will have in our country. The United States Of America.
